672 Collective Bargaining Terms

Okay, here is what we have so far...

Term #1- Salaries- A 14% increase in all teacher salaries. (really, we'll settle for about 8%).

Term #2- Benefits- Maintain current level of health care benefits. (no room to negotiate on this).

Term #3- Benefits- Teachers will be allotted 4 vacation days per year. (Several points of negotiation- they don't roll over, there are black-out dates for which you need administrative clearance to use them on, we forfeit two sick days, etc).

Term #4- Professional Development- Let school sites choose the day they use for Bank PD Days, and whether or not the PD time is utilized at the beginning or the end of the school day.

Term #5- Class Size Overage Pay- When a class is over-enrolled, the teacher will receive $10 extra pay per student, per day. (we'll settle for $5 per student per day).

Term #6- Class Size Overage Pay- When an elementary teacher "sponges" up part of a class that does not have a sub, they shall receive a 20% increase to the stipend they are currently receiving for teaching more students. (we'll settle for 10%).

Term #7- Class Size Reduction- All Physical Education Classes will be capped at 40 students. (we'll settle for 52).

Go ahead and post your thoughts and get the dialog going!

Nancy, I like every item you posted. I willing to be flexible about the vacation days, but I still think we should be specific as to the time: during the school year and summer or just during the school year?

I have another question. Are we supposed to be UTLA or do we create a new name for our union? Are we representing employees from a charter school (as stated in the syllabus)?
